Maintaining Balance was the result of a week’s residency in the desert at Fowler’s Gap outside of Broken Hill. Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy’s land art, I walked around the residency and noticed these smooth, white rocks that stood out from the dry, red earth. I began collecting them and subliminally arranging them in a circular pattern. It became a daily ritual. As the circumference increased, the more difficult it became to gage where to place the rocks in order to maintain balance of the circle. Stepping back and observing from a distance was the best way of deciding where I needed to add or subtract
